We all believed this would be a message to celebrate 1 year at the helm of West End Yoga Company. However, life had different plans. It’s difficult to say, but WEYC will host our final class on June 29, 2025. My heart is broken and, likely, our community shares in that grief.
Even with all the richness we’ve come to know as a community, maintaining the business side of WEYC in its current configuration is just not viable. While passion and heart are the most valuable currency available to humans, they don’t always translate into a currency that covers the monthly expenses. Despite our best efforts, time has come to surrender to this simple truth.
And let’s not lose sight of the reasons to celebrate! We celebrate the amazing teachers and students who were the lifeblood of the studio and made it the gem it is. We celebrate the transformations and awakenings that led to even greater things in life – physical triumphs, restored relationships, emotional healing, spiritual awakenings, improved flexibility and strength. We celebrate the friendships and the community coming around one another during fun and difficult times. We celebrate the gift of movement and breath and learning how important those two basic things are to our wellbeing.
In the spirit of allowing appropriate space for goodbyes and the option to use any outstanding packages, we are announcing the closure in advance. Fortunately, all our current teachers will see us through to the final day, so your favorite class(es) are available to you!
Although all purchases, including packages, are non-refundable, we are offering something back with some parameters. To begin with, refunds are only available to purchases made after March 1, 2025. Your refund request must be emailed to kathryn@westendyogacompany.com by June 20, 2025 to be considered. Refunds of any remaining balance to those who meet the parameters above will be tendered after June 30, 2025.
While none of us know what the future holds, I’m maintaining the studio space and will continue to offer weekly qi gong, my private acupuncture practice, periodic community acupuncture, and workshops (some coupled with yoga!). There are ideas already floating to keep yoga in that beautiful space, but you’ll have to stay tuned to see what mysteries time reveals.
The poet Javan wrote “The pain we feel when someone leaves our life is in direct proportion they bring while a part of our life.” While our hearts hurt with saying goodbye, it is only because of the joy we had together as a community. And it’s important to allow space for the kaleidoscope of feelings that may accompany such news. Be with each other, support the teachers, find ways to take friendships from the studio into other parts of life and, in due time, return to a place of gratitude and focus on the joy!
I close with a deep bow of gratitude to the teachers for sharing your wisdom and guiding our community through a journey of the body, mind, and spirit. You showed up every week to offer your best – and you regularly outdid yourselves! Thank you to every person who ever practiced with WEYC - we appreciate you and you were always the reason we existed.
In love and peace,
Kathryn
